This time last year I was in shambles. I was struggling with heartbreak, and loss of the only social environment I knew. Though it felt like straight hell, it didn’t take long for me to notice that everything was happening for my highest good. God has a funny way of guiding you through the healing process. First he allows everything in your world to explode, then he separates you. At this point you have no choice but to reflect and work on yourself from the inside out. I never wanted to be the typical pretty girl, so I got used to dimming my light, but when you do this, you allow people to think you forgot who you are.
Today, I can proudly say, I’m not who I used to be. For this reason amongst many, I am so grateful for spaces like Talks and Tequila! I met the founder of The Black Latina Movement, Crystal, a couple of years back at a private screening for her short film ‘Cecilia’. After being in solitude over the past year (by choice), I have been slowly getting back out into the world with friends and family, but this event was the perfect space to reset and connect with other black and brown women! TNT began as a virtual concept, curated by BLM when the pandemic hit. It was such a pleasure being apart of the physical experience! Sponsored by Bar Box and Coexist Gaming in NYC (owned by Letta J), Crystal led a conversation around mental health and self care + what it currently looked like for all attendees.
A beautiful day!
Be sure to follow Crystal and BLM on social! I am certainly looking forward to the next one in the fall, so hopefully I’ll see you there.
